Civic Leadership Foundation: Our 6th Year at Mark Sheridan Elementary
The Civic Leadership Foundation (CLF) prepares young people for college, career and active citizenship. CLF partners with schools and community youth programs to cultivate young people's leadership skills through youth-developed and youth-led civic leadership projects that address a need in their community. Our programs focus on young people from 6th grade through their mid-20s who are in a critical transition in their lives. CLF combines project-based learning, community engagement, art-based exercises, peer-mentorship, identity development, and career exploration, so that our program participants: ●Develop Strong Leadership Skills ●Are prepared for Active Citizenship ●Advance in Educational & Career Pathways
For the past five years, we have implemented our Civic Leadership Education: High School Readiness Program for junior high students at Mark Sheridan School. Through the dynamic instruction by our program facilitator, D-Nick Stockman, students are able to connect on a deeper level with their peers while also demonstrating their growth as leaders through the completion of a Civic Leadership Project. Now in our sixth year of partnership with Mark Sheridan we are currently implementing the CLF program with the 6th - 8th grade students, thereby implementing our program with three junior-high grade levels. This will increase the number of students in our program to almost 200. Our program creates an opportunity for students to teach by example, modeling positive behavior and setting the tone for younger students in the Sheridan community.
